Model Senate Foreign Relations Committee Hearing
This challenging and intellectually stimulating program provides motivated high school students with a unique opportunity to learn about the workings of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and to critically analyze international issues from a comprehensive global perspective. Students attend a variety of preparatory sessions and assume the roles of witnesses — portraying senators, cabinet officers, ambassadors, corporate executives, journalists/writers, "think tank" analysts and other experts. On the day of the hearing, students remain in character and work together to develop legislative proposals to address the topic at hand.
Partners
For this program, we partner with the Foreign Policy Association, using topics published in their annual Great Decision Series. Sample topics and briefing papers include:
- China’s Emerging Role on the World Stage
- Russia and its Uncertain Frontier
- Continuing Effects of the Global Financial Crisis
The World Affairs Council of Philadelphia would like to extend a special thank you to the Foreign Policy Association for their generous support of our Model Senate program and, specifically, for granting us the use of their acclaimed Great Decisions publication.
