This challenging and intellectually stimulating program provides motivated high school students with a unique opportunity to learn about the workings of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (SFRC) and to critically analyze global issues from a national and international perspective. Students attend a variety of preparatory sessions and take on the roles of senators, cabinet officers, ambassadors, corporate executives, journalists, think tank analysts and expert witnesses. On the day of the hearing, students work together to develop solutions to realistic problems typically addressed by the SFRC. Learn more about the Model Senate.

Academic WorldQuest

High school students participate in this exciting competition that tests contestants' knowledge of world affairs, geography, history, culture, flags, sports, current events, world organizations, countries and more. At the regional level, the Council's participating high schools compete against one another in teams comprising four members each. At the national level, the winners may go on to represent the Council in Washington, D.C. Are you up to the Academic WorldQuest challenge?

Student Steering and Advisory Committee
Student Steering and Advisory Committee

The SSAC is composed of a diverse, representative group of high school students, selected from our participating schools, with a common interest in world affairs. The committee meets monthly to learn about international affairs, cultures, politics and current events through projects, discussion and guest speakers. It also assists and advises the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia in the development and implementation of student programs.

Opportunities for Students to Attend Public Speaker Programs
Opportunities for students to attend public speaker programs

Made possible by generous scholarships provided by our members, high school students often enjoy the opportunity to attend Council public speaker events, learning about world affairs issues first-hand from prominent political figures, global leaders, journalists and other influential speakers. Sometimes students have the chance to personally meet our guests of honor. See who students have met during our recent programs
