Student Diplomat Program for Middle Schools

Learning about Cultural Diplomacy and Global Affairs

Working with over 650 students and 30 schools from across the greater Philadelphia area, the World Affairs Council's Student Diplomat Program is a year-long enriching and academically challenging journey that introduces middle school students to the world of international relations and diplomacy. This program is designed with an emphasis on building cultural competency and diplomatic skills and helps to meet a growing demand for international affairs curriculum in local middle schools.


Program Summary

Cultural Diplomacy Program - Philadelphia Museum of Art
Tues. , Jan. 24 ;  Wed , Jan 25

Students explore the importance of cross-cultural understanding through collaborative presentations conducted by the Council and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The program includes small group guided tours.

The Student Diplomat Junior Model UN
Prep Conference
Tues. , April 10;  Wed., April  11

Students convene at Temple University’s Fox School of Business and learn from expert speakers about the topics they will debate at the Model UN Conference. The conference agenda also includes activites centered on group problem solving, public speaking and resolution writing.

The Student Diplomat Junior Model
UN Conference

Mon. , May 14;  Tues.,  May 15

Students return to Temple University’s Fox School of Business for a full-day simulation of the UN General Assembly. Assuming the roles of diplomats representing various member-states of the UN, students learn, debate and collaborate on issues of international importance.
