Junior Model UN 2011

May 16 and 18, 2011

On May 16 and 18th, the Council held its annual Junior Model United Nations program. More than 600 middle school students from across the greater Philadelphia region gather at Temple University to participate. This program simulates the work of the United Nations, requiring students to assume the roles of delegates or leaders, representing one of the UN member states in a specific committee. This year's committees will address three global issues: infectious diseases, child labor and the situation in North Korea.

In the months leading up to this conference, students participated in a number of activities, including a half-day preparatory conference that included briefings by academic experts and workshops dedicated to writing and amending resolutions. Our students attend the final conference well prepared to work in their assigned committee, critically and creatively devising solutions to specific international concerns.
