What Really Happened at Abu Ghraib?

The Commanding General of Abu Ghraib, Janis Karpinski, Tells Her Story
On Monday, November 7th, Janis Karpinski spoke to a capacity audience at Philadelphia's Radisson Warwick about her experiences as Commanding General of the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. She shared her side of the story of the prisoner abuse scandal that stunned the nation and angered the world. As commander of the 800th Military Police Brigaide, she was in charge of 15 detention facilities in Iraq, including Abu Ghraib. Karpinski was blamed for ignoring the daily operation of the prison and demoted to Colonel in May 2005.

Ms. Karpinski also shared highlights from her forthcoming book, One Woman's Army, as well as concerns about the current status of detainees in Iraq.
