Shaping 21st century priorities and policies forms the focus of the Council's national conference. In a discussion with high-level government and corporate officials, policy makers and scholars, we will examine some of the more critical challenges and opportunities to achieving greater security in our national and international community. Special emphasis will be given to looking at national security through the prism of energy independence, climate instability, radicalism and terrorism, and an interdependent global economy. We will explore successful models of collaboration between the public and private sectors in developing sustainable solutions to some of the more enduring issues marking our global society.
Confirmed to date are The Honorable Al Gore, whose groundbreaking work in climate change helped garner him the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize, and Admiral Dennis Blair, Director of National Intelligence, who has oversight and authority over the 16 intelligence agencies that comprise the U.S. intelligence community, among many others.
- Energy Security
- National Security and International Terrorism
- Global Recession and Economic Uncertainty
- To close the conference, all premium full day, full day and half day (afternoon) attendees will be treated to a performance by the acclaimed musical group, Intercultural Journeys
Intercultural Journeys presents the world premiere of "Gesher Jeser" (Bridge) for violin, cello and chamber ensemble by Kareem Roustom, commissioned by Intercultural Journeys and dedicated to Hanna Khoury — Arab-Israeli violinist, and Udi Bar-David, Jewish-Israeli cellist. The composition serves as a musical dialogue between Arab and Jewish cultures and a landmark contribution to Arab-Jewish cooperation. Intercultural Journeys' world-renowned ensemble will bring the conference its own new artistic global dynamic. Seeking to promote understanding through the arts, Intercultural Journeys is proud to collaborate with the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia as part of its 60th Anniversary Celebration.
