In partnership with the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (Penn Museum), the Council is honored to host a special Welcome Back program for the World Affairs Council member schools to explore issues on global heritage. Join us for a tour of the Penn Museum’s newly opened Middle East Galleries, with the museum’s new Global Guides: a diverse array of scholars, academics and immigrants from Syria and Iraq who will share deep cultural context to the art and artifacts within the exhibit. While self-touring the Egypt and China galleries, explore ancient civilizations dating back more than 10,000 years, and observe how cultures have been preserved over time. Finally, experience a music-focused workshop where attendees, through play and discussion, will be introduced to themes and questions of South African cultural-political identity.
Guests are invited to arrive early for a special reception (light refreshments) where the Council’s Education team will be on hand to share information about the 2018-19 Global Education Program year.
Membership is required to attend this event and provides your school with access to a number of other Council events, programs, and speaker workshops. If you are interested in learning more about The Council's High School Membership program please visit: https://www.wacphila.org/education/high_school_programs/membership/
**Due to a limited amount of space for this event, there is a maximum limit of 6 tickets per school (five students plus one teacher or parent).**
The World Affairs Council of Philadelphia gratefully acknowledges the Penn Museum for its generous support of and continued partnership with the Council’s educational programming.
